An elegant, alluring composition in the classic fougère style, Asmodeus himself could not have chosen a more fitting fragrance. Notes of lavender, oakmoss, tonka, balsam fir, bergamot, vetiver, geranium, cedar, earth, sandalwood, musk, leather, and tuberose are darkened by the touch of Hell, kissed with the essence of ashes and the smoldering flame.

Hell is empty and all the devils are here.

The original Fougere Gothique was a truly masterful scent: an initial dirty - almost shocking - blast of soil and ashes, that mellowed out into the gorgeous drydown of a dead bouquet of flowers beside a grave in the forest that I know and love. The newer version of the aftershave and EdP has smoothed over a lot of what made the original truly arresting. It's more polite, more mainstream, less adventurous. And it's still pretty darn good! Just not the avant-garde masterpiece it once was. I say this after using 2 full bottles of the original "Hell is Empty" EdP and one of the new "lots of triangles and x's" bottles. I'm still rationing out my last remaining bit of the original aftershave, though have bought 3 more of the new Maggard-exclusive ones, and three tubs of the soap. It still dries down to a wonderful bucolic scent; it's just not the shocking masterpiece it used to be.

Just like with the reserve soap base, I haven’t used a Reserve aftershave base in a long time. It’s a very nice performing base but honestly I do like deltus better. The scent I was surprised I actually liked better than the soap. I felt like I could pick up the other notes better and it smelled less like a mess of wet leaves. The scent was never strong, but, it did linger for a long time for me. This morning I can see smell it very slightly- 17 hours later. That’s great in my opinion when an aftershave is good enough to last but it isn’t so strong that it will also overpower an Edt. I’d recommend this AS for sure even if you don’t match it with the soap.

Intoxicatingly wonderful! This is one of Will's masterful works, to date. Lovely complex scent, and amazing reserve based performance. I've purchased three full sets!
