I've been wet shaving for about 7 years now and when I read reviews from men who are older than me or have been doing it longer, I hope to take advantage of their wisdom and insights. But, rarely does this happen. They just give glowing reviews to soaps that don't lather, safety razors that don't have clearance for soap or hairs or razors that require special blades that cost 10 times as much as a normal DE blade. So, when I give a review, I feel I'm at a disadvantage in giving good information to others, to help them. It also seems to be an insult to Maggard when I leave a critical review, but they need to be made aware of products that don't work or don't last. They need to have feedback as to what to stock their shelves with. So, I feel a sense of doubt in giving a critical review to this brush, that I may not be knowledgeable enough to see its strengths and weaknesses. But, I've had this brush for a year and the knot is now warped and misshaped and I think it should have held up a little better over time, than that. I didn't see any country of origin information under the description tab. I looked on another website and this product is made in Spain, not China. But, we don't know where the hair is sourced from or maybe the knot is made in China, along with getting the horse hair from China. And their made in Spain could mean they glue the knot into the handle in Spain.

This is a very balanced brush when you soak before shaving. Once broken in, it is softer than a Boar but still has a spine to it. The only downside is that it has a "barn-like" smell when you first wet it.

Superb brush. One of my top 3 brushes. This 24mm horse-hair brush is softer than a bore brush, but firmer than a badger, with just the right amount of backbone. A sweet spot brush for me. Very good value for money.

What can I say, the brush is an absolute monster. For a horse hair brush, the knot is very dense and whips up a lot of lather. I live in military quarters, which unfortuantely means I have very hard water. This brush still performs splendidly and has only shed on me once. Hard water tends to be very rough on brushes, so that is saying a lot. Quite funky at first, so I recommend shampooing and conditioning it with Mane 'n Tail (it only makes sense). I do it about 5-7 times. Works for me. Heck, I do that with all my natural bristle brushes.

I've had this brush for 2-3 months, and love it. It was a bit prickly at first, but after breaking in (6-8 weeks of daily use, for me) it became very smooth. It is great for face lathering, and only needs a slight shake after soaking. It shed quite a few hairs at first, but that may have been due to me soaking it above the knot, and possibly at too high a temperature. A little more vigilance has meant no more shedding in the past few weeks. My only complaint is that the acrylic handle seems prone to scratches, which are quite visible. Be careful of hitting it on the sides of your mug!
