Our old school blend of tropical bay tree leaves and Jamaican rum is the stuff of legend: it's one of the original scents of wet shaving. And Bay Rum Shave Soap is one of the first products we introduced to honor our namesake, Colonel Ichabod Conk.

The Bay Rum scent accompanies a rich, thick lather that promotes that smooth, sure glide while you're shaving. Added avocado and vitamin-e help nourish the skin.

It's just the kind of old school inspiration you need some days!

Good but strange...

This is the weirdest soap I've ever used. First off it prefers less water, then the lather also fizzles away some, but it stays slick ??? Very unusual, but it produced a good shave and leaves the skin hydrated from the glycerin in it. The scent is clovey which I don't mind. If the lather held up a bit better I'd give it 4 stars at least.

Very poor performance

I used to like the old Col Conk glycerin soaps but I'm not a fan of the brand anymore. The new formulation of their shave soap is a downgrade in almost every way. The bay rum scent is much stronger (the only positive) but unfortunately I get a burning/stinging reaction on my face, probably because of the increased amount of fragrance. It's a difficult soap to lather and practically disappears as soon as you brush it on. Slickness is okay despite the vanishing lather, but I ended up with a lot of redness and irritation on my skin after shaving. Overall, it's just not a good soap.

You get what you pay for. In my opinion, Col Conk doesn't produce a quality Bay Rum scent (or shave soap for that matter). I wouldn't recommend it. I'm not saying your only other option is purchasing an expensive "top shelf" soap. But spending just a few more dollars on a quality artisan soap will make a world of difference.

Customer review

Good strong lather, not a thirsty soap. The scent left a lot to be desired, and the slickness was far below other soaps sold here. However, very good price and a good lather makes for a great value. I had the protection I needed.

It is better than the Colgate and Williams soaps I started out with 44 years ago. However, this is a case where you get what you pay for. The lather is on the thin side. Fairly slick. Not much scent. Let's give it a solid C+ grade.
