A Turkish Classic!

Don't let the price fool you - Arko's Shave Soap is a total steal! This classic Turkish shave soap creates a slick, thick, and creamy lather that is easily comparable more expensive soaps. Perfect for home or travel use - simply rub the stick on your wet face and lather it up with a brush, or take the long route and chop a piece off into a shave mug. Arko has a creamy, slightly citrus fragrance, reminiscent of old-timey bar soaps.

90g puck in plastic bowl, GREAT for travel

Absolutely great shave!!

I’ve been shaving with a blade for a little over 60 years. Only used an electric a couple times - long enough to realize they do a poor job. I’ve used a lot of different soaps in those 60 years. Some expensive and some inexpensive. Some hard and some soft. Recently my go-to soap removed the tallow resulting in a corresponding decrease in quality. I was forced to look at other products. On the recommendation of Maggard I tried Arko. This soap provides as good a shave as I’ve ever had. Extremely close and extremely smooth. There are a lot of comments as to the smell - which I particularly like. It smells clean and fresh. And…at $5.95 / puck it’s hands down the most cost-effective soap on the market that I’ve found. Will definitely buy again.

A Workhorse of a Soap!

If you need fancy shave soaps, this is not the one for you. If you choose soaps based on scent, this is not the one for you. If you are a bloke who simply needs a quality product at a good price- buy three! The scent is... well... soapy. A lemony, soapy scent. Simple. Basic. I like it. It comes in a compact plastic screw-top container. Where Arko excels is in the performance vs. price category. It lathers like a beast. It is very, very slick and has good cushion. It did take me a couple of shaves to realize it's a very thirsty soap and needs lots of water during lathering. I easily get enough from bowl lathering to do a three pass shave, and will still have a lot left over when I'm finished. Simply put, there is no reason to buy more expensive soap. I know I won't.

Arko 2 year update

I wanted to update my last review from 2 years ago and give some more useful feedback. Scent Strength: 9/10 Scent Profile: lemon & laundry musk (heavier laundry musk note) Slickness: 8/10 Post Shave: 7/10 Post-Shave Note: this has a very nice post-shave for such an inexpensive soap as it includes tallow, coconut oil, and palm kernel oil. It only takes me a few minutes to build a voluminous lather and then paint in additional water for slickness, and to my literal shock, this soap has a pretty darn good post-shave! I think that's why a lot of people from around the world rave about it because compared to other mass-produced soaps this absolutely blows them out of the water. Recommendation: If you buy it and don't like the scent try to power through 5 or 6 shaves with it and you may very well get used to it and begin to like it, that's what I did and now I quite like the scent and so does my wife!

Some people complain about the strong lemony smell of this shave soap but I don't think it is that strong and actually like it. Sure I've got more expensive soaps but I still come back to this one. If you haven't tried Arko you really are missing a great soap!

Customer review

Wow am I surprised by this soap. The performance on it was superb. The lather was easy to build and was beautiful. I got an amazingly slick shave with plenty of lather for my 2 passes. Post shave feel is decent. It’s an under $6 soap so you’re going to get something that should be selling for more easily. It isn’t hard, but it’s not a soft soap either. Scent wise it isn’t exciting. I guess it is lemon? But it’s like of like a cheap old school lemon. But, again, the soap is under $6 I’m not expecting something like Martin de Candre. It is on the stronger side off the puck and mellows out when shaving but it’s still noticeable. Don’t know about after the shave as I had an aftershave on to likely cover and potential lingering scent. When you want to take a break from all the high end or artisan stuff out there you can’t go wrong with this soap. It’s an ok little plastic container it’s in which helps keep it in good shape. When I finish it I will definitely replace it. I can’t believe I’m giving such a cheap soap 5 stars, but it’s really that good. Like the said above the post shave is really the only knock but it is still good enough for me to not dock a star. As usual YMMW, but give it a shot.
