Maggard Razors SS70 Safety Razor Head, Polished Stainless Steel, CNC Machined

The SS70 sports a brilliantly polish surface. The alignment is precise: both sides of the razor are mirror images of the other, and the blade sits squarely, as it should. As for the shave, it was without a drop of blood— smooth yet efficient enough that I didn’t have to apply excessive pressure. I should have got this razor in the beginning of my wet shaving journey.

Wow, What A Shave!!

I had my first shave with the SS70 this morning and all I can say is wow, 2 passes and it was the best shave I've had in a long long time... I originally paired it with the MR8 handle, it was excellent around my mouth, which is where I've had issues for 40 years; for the rest of my shave I changed the handle to the MR3, the extra length gave me more leverage and made the two passes very smooth, with the exception of the same spot on my chin that I have nicked every shave for 60 years. Seriously. This is a terrifically engineered tool, just outstanding. It was a pleasure shaving my very coarse and wiry 4 day old growth on this 75 year old face. This is a somewhat aggressive head, but extremely smooth. Now I know for anything beyond 2 days, this will be my go-to.

Premium Shave Experience

I recently purchased this SS head and initially paired it with the jumbo weight large diameter MR3 SS handle. The first shave this week over a lazy holiday 4-5 day stubble was exceptional with only 2 passes required for a very smooth, close shaving, no-burn/no irritation experience. This is a front line rotation keeper. My somewhat "elderly" beard is full, but of lighter/less coarse weight, with mild to moderate facial skin sensitivity in the usual places - under the nose, around the mouth, and the higher left/right goatee and chin cleft areas. I enjoy the ritual of a full prep - with initial hot towels, followed by preshave oil, then additional lubricating gel or cream ... all before lathering up the hot-soaked brush and applying the shaving cream. Loaded a new Gillette 7 O'Clock Green and the rest of the way home was a real pleasure - pretty close to as good as it gets. The particular blade gap, angle exposure, and tight fitting tolerance design of this razor head, together with the handle size and heavy weight, and using a sharper side-of-the-scale blade, all made this a very close and efficient shave without uncomfortable skin damage. Finished up with a quick cold water alum application and rinse, then aftershave balm, and finally a bit of tightening aftershave. I like really like this razor and handle combo - especially on a 3 day + stubble that it excelled at here. I'll continue to experiment with other handles (like the shorter travel version) and different blades (usually swapping in a fresh one after 2 shaves max), but I've already found a sweet spot for me and can recommend this SS head without hesitation.
