I disagree with the one star reviews. For those who have experienced burn, this aftershave MUST be shaken before using. The ingredients do separate, thus the harsh burn. (I also experienced, but not after shaken first). My only complaint is that it fades after a few hours.

My opinion is not as harsh as some of the others, but to each their own. I found this to have a heavy witch hazel scent straight from the bottle (a plasticy). You also get that on the initial splash, but it dissipates to an even and mild bay rum scent. It's has staying power, but doesn't seem to be overwhelming. It is a typical bay rum fragrance that is maybe a little more reminiscent of rum cake, but not too sweet. I didn't have any reactions of burning or stinging (for me, witch hazel doesn't seem to burn or sting like alum or alcohol). As a matter of fact, I didn't notice anything but the scent. I think this stuff is OK. If you like bay rum then this might be for you.

Not good. I'm a fan of Bay Rum (mostly because my wife loves it). Anyways, I've tried a few different formulas and anyone who enjoys Bay Rum knows it has a mild clove scent. They also will know the Ogallala version is pretty terrible. It has an almost nauseating (overpowering) synthetic aroma. Bay Rum should smell fresh, clean and organic, but Ogallala smells more like a cheap department store label. Bottom line, it's a terrible "Bay Rum". More like a mix of spice oils and witch hazel. Yuck.

Customer review

I’m 36 years old used many different aftershaves in my life and none of them burned my skin like this one did. I read up on some forums that many compare the burn of Ogallala as minimal like Thayers Witch Hazel aftershave. I have used Thayers in the past and I don’t recall any significant burn. I shook up the Ogallala and poured the same amount I use from all my other aftershaves in my hand and applied it. There was a slight delay, and then the burning hit. Even the unshaved skin on my collarbone turned red. The pain took about 5 minutes to wear off. I had to stick my face in the freezer to help alleviate the pain until then. I have never had an allergic reaction to any cologne, lotion, aftershave, or soap. The scent is nice, leans more on the clove side. I think I prefer the scent from Captain’s Choice Bay Rum, but I would still use Ogallala if my face didn’t feel like it was melting. I give it 1 star for the scent. I will never use this again.

Customer review

Bought this bay rum aftershave a while back and just now used it. Boy this stuff is great! I had bought the cologne and used it but held off for a while. Just shaved tonight and used the aftershave and WOW what a great aftershave it is! The scent has made up my mind on what I'm gonna smell like today. No pricy cologne for me today, just the best Bay Rum I've ever smelled!
