The vanillin in Lavanille may cause it to discolor animal hair shaving brushes. Use of a dedicated brush or a synthetic-fiber shaving brush is recommended.

Some time ago, Barrister and Mann® had the extraordinary fortune to obtain a sample of the discontinued, leathery perfume base Mousse de Saxe. Armed with only this small sample and historical records of what went into the original, we set out to re-create the famous design by smell alone. After four months of research, formulation, reformulation, and constant refinement, we successfully rebuilt Mousse de Saxe into its original glory. It seemed only fitting that such an achievement should be used to create a soap inspired by some of the greatest masculine fragrances of all time.

We blend our version of Mousse de Saxe with lavender, vanilla, cedar, and the elegant musk Exaltolide to create a dark, leathery, elegant soap unlike anything seen for nearly a half century.

Eau de Ashtray

This rating was pulled up to 2 stars by B&M's great performance. Recommendation.....try a sample before investing in a whole puck. Lavanille's overwhelming scent is that of an uncleaned ashtray. I am a fan of many tobacco scented shaving soaps ranging from Sterling Haverford to Wholly Kaw Merchant of Tobacco and WSP's Blackbeard. This one was a big disappointment. I hoped the scent would morph into something enjoyable or at least tolerable after it had a chance to evolve post shave. Rather the overwhelming miasma of a full, dirty ashtray with a hint of wet dog intensified as time went on. I actually abandoned a trip to the grocery store to go home and wash it from my face. First time I have ever done that.

Decent but I used betters

I started using wet shave products last year, when discovered that these products don't irritate my skin as the commercial products available everywhere. I came across Barrister and Mann in Reddit forum for Wet Shaving, and found several products on Amazon. When I heard that Maggard razors offers samples of B&M I ordered several and this is how I came to know the Lavanille, which overall was given a good score on the forum. I am very sensitive to scents, complex or simple. I can only describe the Lavanille scent as a scene of me smoking a cigarette wearing a leather pants in a confectionary store. The scent is too sweet to wear for work, and it is definitely not fresh, maybe even based on an old scent. The soap itself takes alot of time to reach a decent lather (unlike other shaving soap products), and it also dries out quickly on the face. I will not use this scent again, and I am happy that I bought only the sample. I am aware that Lavanille is a very popular scent, I have no idea why. There are sooo many other scents much better than this one. ... Only my own views and thoughts are shared. If you never used Lavanille and want to try, use the sample first to get a sense of this overly complex scent.
