When I make a shaving brush handle and make recommendations to customers, I look at the cost and value both for the type of knot they want. Honestly, I think these knots are very under rated. They perform and feel like most of the higher end silvertip knots out there. Maggard Razors are great at passing the saving on to their customers. This knot will give you great performance at a fraction of the cost whether you make your own handle or have any of the many brush makers make one for you.
When I used this knot for my customers, I was able to put this knot in a 1 inch (25.4mm) hole (snug fit), but I think it fits better in a 26mm hole (better fit IMHO).
I've been able to get a maximum of 57mm loft with a 9mm depth hole. It all comes down to your preference in loft. I personally believe (not from personal use experience) that this knot will perform well from anywhere between 48mm-52mm loft. It comes down to your preferences.
