This is fantastic razor. It was my first and only safety razor I've used and extremely satisfied. It's comfortable to use and gives me a perfect shave every time. (I shave every 3 days) I have tried a number of blades, shave cream, accessories and everyone has been good. I have been purchasing my shaving supplies from Maggard since 2015 and highly recommend them.

An absolutely fantastic DE razor! Great for beginners and seasoned wet shaving veterans. The Edwin Jagger DE89 head is a tried-and-true performer that is mild to medium in aggressiveness, thus it gets the job done but with an exceptional level of comfort, smoothness, efficiency, and with plenty of forgiveness. Handle wise, all of the EJ handles are superbly made and finished. I personally favored the refined look and feel of the "Barley" knurling on this handle, as it is less "machine shop" and "industrial tool" oriented in both appearance and feel, and more along the lines of a fine musical instrument (being a jazz trumpet player, myself). Be assured the chromed Barley knurling is still plenty "grippy" enough to feel safe and secure in even wet and lather-covered fingers. The overall weight of the EJ DE89 Barley Chrome razor is sufficiently substantial to allow the razor to do the work and it is wonderfully balanced, which (to me) is far more important than the total mass. Some friendly advice: Make the trip to Maggard Razors if at all possible! You won't be disappointed! Their knowledgeable staff, product selection, and top notch customer service are a real treat, and as much as we all love the convenience of internet, there is NO substitute for engaging with a real person, in a real cool place, and putting the real products right in one's hands before making a purchasing decision regarding items of such a personal and intimate nature.

I was a little overwhelmed when I started researching all of the DE razor options out there. I finally ordered the EJ DE89BA11 "Barley" razor and couldn't be happier. It's not only a great performer, but it looks like a piece of jewelry as well. The subtle knurling ensures a good grip with soapy fingers but is understated and elegant vs. more industrial looking options. It has beautiful balance, and the head has enough weight to provide a clean shave with no pressure. Overall a great little razor and I couldn't be happier.

Great razor for a beginner or an experienced DE shaver. I own several razors but on most days this is still my go to razor. I've tried a variety of different blades with it and it performs well with just about any blade you can put in.
