Top of the Heap!

I took a little road trip up to Maggard’s store about four months ago and, not wanting to go home empty-handed, decided to finally buy an AS-D2. From the first use, this was clearly the best of my 20+ de razors. It is smooth, extremely efficient, and leaves no nicks or weepers whatsoever. It is at least as efficient as my slant razors, and less fuss than my adjustables, with better results. It works with every blade that I have tried in it, but my favorites are Kai, Personna Med Prep, and Gillette Silver Blue. It seems to tame the very sharp blades. I now use it every day. If you are wondering whether or not it is worth the money, I would say yes, absolutely.

Expensive but superb. I am normally a frugal guy but don't regret the purchase. I like the Kai blades. They are similar to the Feather blades but last longer and are a bit smoother with less nick. If a fabulous piece of kit that gives smooth, close shaves and for many people the Feather AS-D2 is tough to beat.

Due to extremely sensitive skin I’ve searched high and low for THE mild razor. It seems that I have found it (does the adventure ever really end?) Most of the reviews praised the Feather AS-DS2 as a mild but efficient razor. The only caveat is that one must learn a different shaving angle, and most said that the perfect blade for this razor is obviously the Feather. Thus, full of hubris (after all I’ve been at this wet shaving gig for a whole year!), I loaded a feather blade and was rewarded with a blood bath and a very irritated cheek and neck. Undaunted, I pressed on, moving on to Polsilver and Wilkinson Sword blades. Lo and behold, persistence paid off, and I was taught a valuable lesson. This razor is indeed, as perfect a marvel of engineering as can be had. It is so perfectly balanced, that I finally understood what it means to let the weight of the razor do the work. Using the lightest of touches, I can be satisfied with a one and a half pass shave. And this razor can be driven every day.

I have gradually, and sometimes reluctantly, retired my other razors as for the last two years the ASD2 has proven to be an exceptional shaver, safe, effective and efficient. I prefer a Feather or Kai blade with this instrument, although Astras, and others also work well. I have been shaving for more than sixty years and feel like the ASD2 is the crown razor that I have been fortunate to obtain. Sort of like my nostalgia for the 1964 Ford Galaxy that I dream about. And this is a beautiful razor.

There are actually razors out there that cost more than this one (and I have a few of them), but I promise that they don't shave as well as the Feather AS-D2. I've tried it with both Feather and Kai blades (what I consider very sharp and aggressive blades) and it gives me a BBS shave with NO irritation. Hands down the best DE safety razor I have ever used and its my new "go to" razor. Put simply, worth every cent.
