Maggard Razors DE Safety Razor MR14 Aluminum Gray, Handle Only

I have this one (together with a Maggard slant head) for years now. Forgot about it because I have a lot other DE-shavers to choose from. Happy rediscovery. It has the exact length for my hands en the grip even wet is good enough. I like it because the weight (light) and length combination are unique and make this a handle with very good control for the experienced shaver.

I have about 30 diffefrent DE razors. I bought this handle with the least expensive Maggard head in a bundle for $17.95. It was a whim. I didn't expect much from it, and I even forgot about it. Guess what? It has its quirks, but it has become my favourite razor (over 2 Parkers, a Rockwell, 2 Merkurs, my beloved Edwin Jagger, and a miriad of others The handle is light, but not as light as say a Lord L6 or Lord Tech, or even my Gillette Tech. The shape is slightly flaired, and for some reason, it makes the handle very comfortable to hold. Because the handle is a bit on the light side, the resulting razor is a bit head heavy. That makes the head more efficient and resists the natural instinct of using any sort of pressure. Even a novice can use this handle and the Maggard 1 head and never have to worry about getting nicked, or cut. The handle does get a bit slippery when wet, aside from that..... its a dream!

Some ups and downs... 1. I didn't really like the looks of this handle at first glance. 2. Then I got it as part of a used equipment purchase and really got to like the way it felt in my hands. 3. Until I got it wet, and it was just too slippery to use.

After a few months of use, corrosion has occurred which has damaged the outer shell. It is worth to improve the anti-corrosion protection.

This is a nice looking handle, with a nice gunmetal grey coating. I was initially concerned that it would have poor grip, but it has not been an issue. The lightness was a known issue, as it's aluminum composition was well documented in the literature. I like the flat bottom, as this enhances control. I like this handle, but don't love it. I like the look, and it feels okay, but it is not as good as some of the other handles that Maggard sells. I believe that, unless you're looking for a light handle, or a handle that matches the coloration of a head, you'd be better served with one of their stainless steel examples.
