Great little brush

This is a great smaller badger brush. This works better for me than the highly rated Duke D3. I face lather and even with a huge noggin, this brush is just the right size for face lathering. The handle might be a little short for deep bowl lathering. The brush builds and releases lots of lather. The Duke D3 builds lather but doesn’t want to let it go. The 55 makes a suitable travel brush but the 56 is a little easier to use on a daily basis since the handle is a little longer/taller.

Little brush in its Best

Fantastic brush that can do everything, in a smaller size. Very comfortable and versatile, the short loft, kept the hair compact and precise. It's my ideal brush for just trimming my lines or lathering soaps that are in smaller size jars. There is a huge difference between the 56 and 57, that is a 23mm with longer loft that bloom way wider than the 56. The 56 is way more constant than my Berkeley B46, witch feel flimsy and floppy. The Classic 1, that I keep for traveling, feel a little more toward face lathering than multitask. A good budget alternative would be the Commodore.

An often overlooked gem of a brush! The Simpson 56, like all of its 50 series siblings, has a well-proportioned handle that is unique to the series. I found the handles on this "lesser known" series of top quality hand-made British shaving brushes to be absolutely superb! And the Simpson best badger knot is richly dense, with plenty of backbone, and oh soooo soft! I went for the 56 -- right in the "sweet spot" size for this face-lathering wet shaver. The stock picture of the 56 does not do justice to the incredible "bloom" that will develop after only a few uses! Yet, even with an elegant bloom, this little beauty stays firm, focused, yet luxurious and never floppy. Larger knots (for me) just put lather all over the place. I much prefer the directness and control of the 56, yet there is absolutely no compromise in comfort and effectiveness in applying the lather and preparing the skin and whiskers for a splendid wet shave! If you haven't checked out the Simpson 50 series best badger brushes, do yourself a big favor and do so. Maggard Razors has a very complete selection of Simpson and other fine brushes in their wonderful shop!
