Clary Sage & Violet:  I wanted to create a lavender-esque scent for people who don't like lavender. The clary adds a herbal-like freshness, while the violet provides the "purple flower" to create this calming and pleasant scent!

Julien base:  Named after Julien Dubuque.  Ties in with Dubuque, Iowa... location of lock and dam number... Eleven!

After a dozen or so formula changes, I settled on what I think is a soap base to rival any other.  It lathers incredibly easily, can handle a LOT of water, is extremely slick and provides plenty of protection.

Julien Base Ingredients: Stearic Acid, Water, Tallow, Glycerin,  Potassium Hydroxide, Shea Butter, Kokum Butter, Castor Oil, Mango Butter, Sodium Hydroxide, Fragrance, Grapeseed Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, Hydrolyzed Silk, Sodium Lactate, Allantoin, Tocopherol Acetate.

This is a great performing soap, with great cushion, decent slickness, and easy-building lather even in hard water. The only thing that makes me take a star is that the scent was just a little too strongly violet for me to absolutely love. The strong violet character definitely fits in the androgynous zone, with a floral scent that’s neither especially feminine nor masculine (the sage does peek through enough for some herbal balance). I will say it’s probably a great scent for springtime to put a bit of pep in your step, and the herbal tone comes out more fully after the shave. My quibble about the scent isn’t so strong though that this one won’t remain in my relatively small stable of great, useable soaps. Especially because this is not, to me, an overly pungent scent of the sort that would dominate your olfactory sense for the next 8 hrs.
