The traditional safety razor with replaceable blade is regarded by many as the first mechanical razor for self-shaving. At MÜHLE it is more: a minor miracle of precision, ergonomics and beauty, created for ambitious wet shavers. Our design combines high-quality metal-working (chrome-plating) with an extremely fine engraved finish. The model comes in two versions (closed and open comb) as every beard growth, every type of facial skin is individual – and the same applies to personal shaving preferences. Comes with a short instruction and one blade.

This has become my go to razor. I have other razors and many cost substantially more. But the R89 is perfectly balanced in my hand (I shave face and head) as well as providing the blade angle that I like. I use various blades, but more than half the time it's a Feather. The sharpness of the Feather in combination with a medium/milder aggressiveness of the R89 is the right combination for me. I also use either D.R. Harris Arlington or Castle Forbes Lime creams with Castle Forbes being the favorite. Both of these creams tend to be less "oily" and viscous than TOBS or Trumper. They let the blade and razor do their job without getting in the way. I provide the context of the blades and creams I use to help others evaluate my rating of the R89. Oftentimes, people will use a more aggressive razor with less aggressive blades and with creams/soaps that provide more cushioning and protection. I prefer the R89 because it's a medium/mild razor that in combination with more aggressive blades and less viscous creams provides a fantastic shave. And as others have noted about the Muhle products the craftsmanship is outstanding.

I bought a Muhle R106 (head, was the same as R89) excellent safety razor. made very high quality, looks very beautiful. P89 shave very very smoothly and gently, if you pick the blade, but it's an individual choice. I use Israeli Personna. M R89 is good choice for a beginner. I recommend

Customer review

This is my first safety razor. Someone had to be first. I did quite a bit of research on all the razors and from many sites. I basically settled and jumped in. I don't have the full setup yet, however, I did use my Muhle for the first time this morning. (BTW, I purchased from Brad & Casie because they were also from Michigan and provided excellent service all around.) Razor performed better than expected, not cuts, no blood. I was worried a bit about this since I had seen many with this problem. I have been shaving for years so this is not much different than using a throw away, just a little more care and less pressure. I did find that the burn feeling is there unless you use some sort of balm. Great Razor, Great company, Great Start.
