First off, lets get one thing clear – if you are looking for a fancy smelling soap, this is not the one you are looking for. This soap has no added scents, colors, or anything else. It's pine tar shaving soap. Just soap and Pine Tar.

It doesn't smell fancy – after all, it is tar!

What does it smell like? You've probably encountered pine tar, or something that smells like it at some point.

What is pine tar? It's a natural tar extracted from pine tree roots by heating or burning it in oxygen reduced atmosphere. Today most people only know it as the substance baseball players use to get a tight grip on their bats, but it has a far more colorful history than that. It has been used to waterproof tall sailing ships, and to treat the rigging ropes against rotting while in use.

Pine tar soap has been made and loved for well over 100 years, and after using it, we are not surprised – it's really good stuff. If pine tar soap worked for grandpa, it works for me too.

Note: Our pine tar is made using a closed-kiln process and as such is creosote-free.

Ingredients: Stearic Acid, Potassium Hydroxide, Beef Tallow, Coconut Oil, Aloe Vera Juice, Water, Castor Oil, Glycerin, Pine Tar, Mango Butter, Avocado Oil, Silk Powder.

Excellent performer! Decades ago I cured a skin problem with a birch tar product, that’s when I got addicted to the different scents of tree tar (pine, spruce, birch). It usually is a dark, heavy scent that you either love or hate. Although this Pine Tar soap is not as strong and heavy. It definitely is a Pine Tar fragrance, with hints of pine and spruce needles, and a kind of tangy cologne in the background. The strength of the scent is about 7/10. I love this soap and scent, it’s on my top 5, together with “Midnight Stag”. I will buy these again and again. The review and description of “Kilgore” (Texas? Rangerettes?) hits the nail on the head.

I reach for this Pine Tar soap pretty often, and I hope more people discover it. The scent is difficult to describe -- pine-woodsy, slightly medicinal, and wonderfully old fashioned in a good friendly way. No it's not sweet, nor is it perfumed. It's unique, unlike anything else in my collection of about 40 soaps. Performance is a 10 out of 10 in my opinion. This soap deserves way more love than it's getting, maybe because "Pine Tar" isn't an inspiring name -- it's just a plain honest name. I bought a sample, and then bought a full tub. Glad I have it. Love it, and will buy it again.
