Henson Shaving AL13 with Medium Blade Gap: Medium --- .0016" - .0024"

Precision Eliminate the Chatter. Our razors are manufactured with the same Aerospace processes and in the same facility that produces components for the Mars Rover, International Space station, and production style work on Low Earth Orbit Satellites. This razor is designed and manufactured with extreme precision in mind. While most of our competition builds in allowance for casting and painting, Henson Shaving required and achieved remarkable five ten-thousandth of an inch (0.0005) tolerance on critical dimensions through the machining and anodizing process. This means your blade sits straight every time. The blade support creates the most accurate blade exposure on the market. Accurate blade exposure combined with our unique design means no vibration in the blade (or chatter). Chatter is what causes razor burn and in-grown hairs.

What this means for you is a noticeably better shave that just feels different. It truly is one of a kind.

Tungsten thrust bushing: We have equipped our razor with a tungsten bushing which serves one purpose: to reduce friction while tightening the razor. This creates a smooth feel, with little torque required to clamp the blade in place. Tungsten has a very low coefficient of friction and is fairly hard, as well as being very corrosion resistant, so it serves well as a bushing in this application. Additionally, the reduced friction will result in less wear between the handle and the base plate.

Value - Don’t Spend. Invest. Whether you are currently purchasing disposable razors, razor cartridges at the drug store, or have signed up for a subscription program, investing in a Henson Al13 will have you seeing cost savings within the first year. The average user will get a month's worth of shaving from the 5pk of blades included. Additional blades can be purchased from anyone and it works out to about a dollar per month.

The savings add up to be quite a lot over 20 years. Do the math. (Roughly $11,000 in savings over 20 years). Having this razor at these prices took a substantial investment and our position is to not charge customers ongoing fees or trap them in continual subscriptions. We want to make a great product at a fair price. That's it.

Environmental Impact - Look to the Future. More than 2 Billion disposable Razor and cartridges reach the landfill every year. With a Safety Razor, your razor blades can be recycled at most metal recycling depots.

Conclusion. We expect this razor to be drama free, cut noticeably better, and cost significantly less than what you are currently using now. Girls & Guys alike. Period.

A review update

I'm keeping the five stars because this razor always delivers an amazingly close shave, but I've returned to my Edwin Jagger DE89. The issue is my apparently sensitive skin. Unless I mixed my soap on the wet side, and unless the blade was quite fresh, there were too many days when my skin burned after shaving with the aggressively angled blade. Perhaps a different soap will make a difference. We'll see.

A really nice shave

I didn't think anything could top my Edwin Jagger DE89, and then I tried this razor on a whim. (OK, I was intrigued by the company's website where a bunch of geeky aerospace types talk about measured parameters I wouldn't have thought needed measuring.) The angle is more aggressive than the Edwin Jagger, but I also think there is something to the company's claim of clamping the blade more firmly in position for a better result. My shaving is now one pass when the blade is fresh. (The exception is my sideburns, which require a touch-up no matter what combination of razor and blade I use or how fresh the blade is.) After a few days with the same blade, I need a few strokes here and there with the Henson to achieve complete smoothness, but nothing like the extra passes I have needed with other double-edge razors. One note for people contemplating this razor: The handle is long. It's 3 3/4 inches from the bottom plate to the base of the handle. This may prove a problem for people who value something like a Merkur for the ease of maneuvering its short handle. At the same time, because this razor is aluminum, it is very easy to wield and as light as those disposable plastic atrocities we must carry in order to pass through airport security. As an aside, the RK blades that ship with the Henson are OK, but I prefer the result with this razor and my favorite Feather blades.
