Perfect brush - not the greatest handle

This is what I’ve been looking for. Short loft and super firm backbone. I probably have 40 brushes now and to me this puts the others to rest. I’ve ordered custom brushes to be able to get a short loft like this but they frown on anything lower than a 52mm loft. This has 47mm loft and I think I would even prefer it to be shorter down to 43mm. Haven’t broken it in yet, and part of me wishes it will never break in as I like what Im guessing other people hate called skritchy or prickly. Now I’m looking forward to my shave thinking about the feel this brush gives. The handle is very cheap feeling plastic. Wish it were in ANY of the Omega brush handle designs they have other than this. This has to be the worst handle of all the 15 or so Omegas I own, and some of the cheap boars were less expensive than this 40033.

I picked this up as a potential traveler Because I travel weekly. It has replaced a Simpson Wee Scott, Bambino, and an Omega Mixed Midget (I hate the pure bristles in it). After breaking in quickly, I’m amazed by how well this performs, almost on par with my Semogue SOC. It has to be the best value for money I’ve seen in shaving. It performs so well, I will use it at home too. For traveling, it won’t fit into a small pharmacy bottle, but does fit a Vulvix (possibly Simpson) travel case.

This brush at glance has about the same loft and knot size as the Semogue 620. Bristles are softer and tightly packed. I followed the “Tieste” method to remove the knot and put a new handle on it. It is a great face lather brush. Highly recommended!

Customer review

I bought this brush in the summer of 2015 and took it with me to Africa for three months in the bush. I have nothing to complain about this brush. It breaks in wonderfully and loads like a champ; it continues to get softer bristles with every use. I originally bought if for at the great price and it's small, but beefy size (24mm knot). It definitely has no trouble whipping up a great lather and for me has a permanent place in my shave den. My sons use to kid me for having a "baby" brush, but are dumfounded at its performance.

Customer review

I'm relatively new to shaving brushes, but I have developed a preference for face lathering and was looking for a short loft boar brush with a lot of backbone that would hold enough lather for 3-4 passes. This is about the shortest loft and the largest knot (therefore the most backbone) I could find. I've read a number of reviews touting this brush as a "hidden jewel" especially for face latherers and I am glad to say after just my first use I totally agree. This brush really digs into my Proraso green soap, and even the very first time, before proper break in, whipped up an amazing lather. It seems to have just the right level of "scritchiness" to exfoliate and massage while applying a thick, luxurious lather. It splays out just perfectly in my humble opinion. It doesn't have the best handle, but in my brief experience its without question the best boar knot I have tried thus far.
