Parker 99R Chrome Handle Butterfly TTO Closed Comb DE Safety Razor

I like heavy weight, long handled razors, so this fits the bill in that category. It has good balance and feel in the hand. Unfortunately, since I do not have a very tough or demanding beard, I found this to be more aggressive than I like. I find that if pair it with a very mild blade, it works well, especially if I have let my beard grow out a couple of days.

This is my third razor and I wanted a more aggressive razor and thought this would fit the bill. I've tried several DE razor blades that are less aggressive and extremely aggressive and could not find a combination that worked. I know this is a great razor from the reviews, but I think I got a dud or it just doesn't work with my funny face. I get a very bad rash regardless of razor blade and shaving soap after over a dozen tries.The butterflly worked very well, opened and shut very tight and there was absolutely no movement of the blade when it was closed, so everything on the razor was working properly. It just didn't work for me.

First of all the 99r is not that mild. I would say moderate aggressive but very efficient. The parker open combs are more on the mild side, like my 26c. But this is a fantastic razor. One of my favorites and most used. Good for beginner or veteran wet shaver.

Fantastic price... to me this razor is on the more "mild" side of blade exposure. Feels hefty, looks great and seems to work well. The doors can be a bit rattly and clanky, I am somewhat worried about damaging the mechanism, but so far so good. I have one complaint, when loading in a blade, sometimes I have a hard time getting the blade aligned to have even exposure on both sides, I have to sit there and play around with it for a minute until its just right... This does not seem to bother some people, but it really bothers me. Not very convenient! I overall recommend this razor.

This razor for the price is an absolute steal. The finish is perfect and the weight is hefty enough to feel like a serious hair removal tool. I got tired of changing blades in thr three piece razors and wanted a close shave without the hassle of disassembly for a blade change. The TTO is easy to clean and change blades. The Gillette vintage razors were mostly TTO for years. Thank you Parker for keeping that tradition alive and thank you Maggard's for carrying them. If you haven't already, you should try one.
