Some of the initial units appear to have had some quality control issues in that the head did not fully clamp down on the blade allowing it to slip. Other reports from people in the field did not have this problem so it is not a design issue. A few strokes with a metal file fixed the problem. With that out of the way, I can say that it is an excellent razor for the price. It is a very mild shaver with minimal blade exposure so if you have a tough beard you will need a sharp blade. It does not clog-ever. In use, it shaves like and injector, so you have to shave with the cap almost riding on your face and the handle almost out at 90 degrees. Due to the limited blade exposure, the window of working angles is very small. That does take some practice and discipline if you are used to varying your shaving angle a lot. This would be an excellent razor for someone new to shaving. It is almost impossible to nick or cut yourself with this razor. Use of conventional DE half blades makes it extremely economical. The 20 blades that it comes with are not Feather level sharp, but are very durable. Again, great for a first time shaver. So, if you have a light beard or sensitive skin, this is probably the perfect single edge razor. If you have a tough beard, you will probably need four full passes to get an acceptably close shave, but considering how mild the shave is, that is not a problem. Once Pearl gets the Q.C. issues straightened out, this will be an excellent single edge razor for the price. As always, you can rely on Maggard's to make things right if you get a bum unit.
