Scent Description

Our first original scent in quite some time, Varen was a project 2 years in the making. It was originally made for a Dutch wet shaving forum, so we gave it the name Varen, the Dutch word for "fern".

This natural fougere is a powerful blend of oakmoss, lavender, coumarin, vetiver, sage, cedar, lichen, and geranium.

WARNING: DO NOT USE if you are pregnant or have epilepsy due to the oakmoss content.

Ingredients: Mutton Tallow, Stearic Acid, Distilled Water, Castor Oil, Potassium Hydroxide, Vegetable Glycerin, Essential/Fragrance Oil Blend, Almond Oil, Shea Butter, Coconut Milk, Lanolin, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Lactate

I'm updating my previous review. The scent was so dominant and overpowering that I consigned my sample of this soap to the trash . I'm glad it was only a sample. The lather was good though.

The lathering of Stirling Soaps are fantastic, hence the extra star but this fougere scent is in my opinion strong and rather sickly which lingers too long. I'm afraid this one is not for me.

Stirling soaps are solid performers, providing slickness and easy lathering to a degree that belies their very reasonable prices -- especially for the amount of product you get. I've have several other Stirling scents that I love for their depth and originality. Varen is just the opposite -- a scent that is conventional down to its core. It's a clean, fresh, going to the office scent. It smells the way the tailor at a men's suit store smells. It says, "I made an effort with my grooming." Know how every Coldplay song sounds kind of like some other song -- you just can't quite remember which one? That's Varen, the minivan of Stirling scents.
