Tallow? What tallow?

I’ve been shaving with a blade for a little over 60 years. Only used an electric a couple times - long enough to realize they do a poor job. Tabac (with tallow) was as good a soap as I ever used. Used it for years. Just stellar. However…I don’t know what mental giant removed the tallow from the formula but it’s no longer worth buying. I can NOT shave without cutting myself using the new formula. Will not be buying again.

Reasonable price. Last long. I am one who like the smell. To me it is clean and not overwhelming. There are fragrance I prefer but it is nice enough and I don't buy it for the smell. The moisturizing matters more to me. I live in the desert southwest and I like that it doesn't dry out my skin like some so. It provides a good lather and lubrication.

I realize what follows will be a minority opinion regarding this much lauded product. Scent: Tabac’s scent produces little middle ground but that’s where I would rate it. Sniffing the puck, my wife described it as smelling like a retired doctor. I would add that there are some fancy floral notes of toilet bowl cleaner, too. But the scent of the actual lather is subdued, short-lived, and somewhat forgettable. Performance: This is what really counts but perhaps my expectations were too high. Tabac works. It makes lather. I got a good shave. But I would rate the performance on par with a much cheaper Col. Conk product. As a point of comparison, I consider Stirling and Maggard’s house brand to be top performers for the price. I really expected to like this soap. And I did. But not enough to buy it again.

One of the best, period. If this was the only shave soap available I'd be happy. Awesome lather, rich, slick, plenty of cushion, easy to work. A puck will last about a year, worth every penny !

Simply said Tabac is the ultimate shave soap. I use the soap, the after shave, and the cologne. The scent totally changes after an hour or so and lasts several hours. If there was only one soap I would want it to be Tabac.
