The Muramasa is a highly efficient and comfortable adjustable safety razor that allows shavers to choose the preferred shave setting (smooth or aggressive) by simply turning the razor dial.

Due to its fine-tuning adjustable mechanism and superior construction quality, it provides an adaptable shave. Perfect for both wet shaving beginners and experts.

The Muramasa adapts to your skin and hair but it’s also perfect for a rushed shave if you need a more forgiving setting, or if your mood simply demands something new.

FOR EVERY SKIN & HAIR TYPE

After several prototypes, we achieved the perfect balance between every level setting.

The very mild configuration at level 1 is ideal for more sensitive skin or shorter facial hair. Perfect to transition away from cartridge razors or if you prefer a milder shave.

For more experienced shavers, or when dealing with bigger and curlier facial hair, our top setting has a greater gap and higher blade exposure for a closer shave. If you wish to fine-tune between levels, that’s also possible.

PATENTED ADJUSTABLE SLIDING BASE-PLATES SYSTEM

The Muramasa’s unique blade exposure setting, made possible through the sliding base-plates system, provides:

⚫ Simultaneous adjustment of blade gap and blade exposure

⚪ Wide-range of adjustment ( 5 levels, pre-set levels with in-between adjustability)

⚫ No need for “wear and tear” pieces like springs

⚪ Quick adjustment without disassembling the razor

HOW IT WORKS

The Muramasa razor is comprised of an adjustable sliding base-plates system that provides a strong support to the blade and a quick adjustment of the blade exposure (BE) and blade gap (BG).

While rotating the dial you will move the base plates together/apart from the razor’s head, changing the point of contact between the blade and the user’s skin.

This means a difference in BG and BE at the same time.

A numbered window will display the level setting you are at as you rotate the dial.

SUPERIOR MANUFACTURING
316L STAINLESS STEEL

To ensure maximum performance and longevity, all the pieces are made from solid material and CNC machined in AISI 316L marine grade Stainless Steel.

Our expertise with CNC machines allows us to reach unbelievable levels of precision, with tolerances as fine as 0,02mm. This guarantees minimal friction and wear to all the parts, providing durability and contributing to the safe use of the Muramasa.

NO BULKY HEADS

Thanks to our simple and efficient patent-pending mechanism, we managed to keep the head dimension to a minimum.

The result is a beautiful razor that can reach anywhere on your face, even the more complicated areas around the nose and mouth.

To improve user safety, we also covered the blade tabs to avoid cuts during the shave and while changing the blade.

CHOOSE YOUR
FAVOURITE SETTING

⚫1 - gap = 0.60mm / exposure = negative 0.17mm

⚪2 - gap = 0.70mm / exposure = negative 0.07mm

⚫3 - gap = 0.75mm / exposure = 0 mm

⚪4 - gap = 0.80mm / exposure = positive 0.07mm

⚫5 - gap = 0.90mm / exposure = positive 0.17mm

DESIGN

The design of the Muramasa was thought as a unified entity and not as a raw mechanical assembly of different parts.

The handle is designed using a twisted dimple pattern that enlarges towards the head of the razor for a better grip while displaying the concept of an adjustable razor.

The compact design was developed to avoid blade chatter and blade rattle to ensure a safe and efficient performance in every setting.

BLADE CHATTER FREE

The wide contact area that supports the blade between the cap and base plate is one of the most important features of our razors.

It guarantees that the blade does not vibrate during the shave, giving the smoothest shave possible, ultimately avoiding blade chatter and blade rattle known to cause nicks and cuts.

EVERY PIECE IS HAND FINISHED

All the 7 pieces in the Muramasa are hand finished and sandblasted - piece by piece.

Through this process, we achieve a smoother gunmetal matte look, softened edges, and we eliminate CNC machining markings.

The numbered piece on the Muramasa dial is inspired by the analog watch date window and is coated with dark PVD to allow a better glance at the number setting.

ELEGANT & SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING

Your razor will be proudly and beautifully packed in a natural cork box, covered by a textured linen cardboard box marked with our golden logo and sealed with a magnet.

Cork is the bark of the cork oak, which means that it is 100% natural plant tissue and is the only wood that you can obtain without cutting down the tree.

It is a one-of-a-kind raw material from the Alentejo region, in Portugal.

Simply Fantastic!

I’ve had this for over a week with about 6-7 shaves behind me. I am also a head shaver. I’ve been using DE razors for over 7 years. This razor is just fantastic. I have BBS results and have not adjusted the blade beyond #3 setting. Don’t believe the reviews that say setting #1 is useless. I primarily use #1 to shave my head BBS with no issues at all. I use setting #2 for my face and neck. The razor is well engineered and nicely weight balanced. The handle grips nicely. My only complaint is that the adjustment numbers are hard to read, especially for someone like me who wears glasses. I think that Tartara could’ve used a color scheme or some other more legible designation for the adjustment. That is my primary and only gripe. The razor arrived well packaged. However, I’ve never placed much emphasis on packaging as long as the item arrives without damage. But that is just my perspective. Astra blades are my go to and seem to work nicely with this razor. I replaced a Rockwell T2 adjustable that I purchased about 2 years ago. Unfortunately the adjustment failed on the T2. Rockwell sent a replacement. But by then I had endured head scapes and nicks. So I was looking for another “forever” razor and came across the Muramasa. It is easy to disassemble, consisting of only 7 parts and a key for disassembly. If any of these pieces fail, they can easily be replaced. There is an O ring that assists with the adjustment that I foresee wearing out over time. I bought a bag of 30 silicon O rings on Amazon for about $6 (8mm OD x 6mm ID x 1mm width). That should last me for a long long time. I understand that it’s expensive. But I anticipate this being a good investment, while providing an enjoyable shaving experience for a very long time. Cheers!

The best adjustable razor I’ve ever used

I have been shaving with DE razors for some 50+ years and over that time, I’ve tried pretty much all the major razor brands, going back to the Gillette days. At one time, I owned some 15+ razors, but got rid of all of them and in recent times, settled down on two razors, a Merkur FUTUR and a Merkur 37C Slant. The FUTUR is a superb tool if you know how to use it and put its heft and weight to work. But it is overly aggressive, and using it requires patience and skill. This was my go to razor for the lazy days and 3-pass shaves. The 37C Slant has been my go to razor when I have limited time, for a quick one-pass or 1.5 pass shave. My favorite blades are Feather with the 37C and Astra with the FUTUR. With that background, when I first read a description of the Tatara Muramasa, I was instantly impressed. As an engineer, I quickly appreciated the concept of positive and negative blade exposure and I marveled at the precise positioning of the blade within the razor at each of the 1:5 settings. The price was obviously ouch-inducing, but then again, a computer-controlled set up for this kind of precision machining is not cheap. So I rolled the dice and bought one (short handle version), and I have not been disappointed in the least. The razor works perfectly, exactly how I had hoped it would. With a Feather blade, I can now shave in a hurry, be very efficient and still get a 3-pass BBS shave, with the first WTG pass at setting 3, a second XTG pass at setting 2, and a final ATG pass at setting 1. With the Astra, I probably bump up the settings by about 0.5. There are some less sharp blades with which I have to go 4/3/2, but I avoid using such blades, anyway. Almost instantly, the Muramasa + Feather has become my staple now. At least for me, this is in a high orbit of its own that no other razor / blade combo can hope to reach. I still use my Merkur 37C + Astra combo occasionally, but this has become my travel razor. With its modest price of $49, I can afford to lose it and buy another. I will probably keep my Merkur FUTUR “for old time’s sake”, but really, there is zero need for anything else for me. Shaving is a very personal thing and certain razor + blade combinations work best for certain types of hair. But IMHO, the Tatara Muramasa is simply in a class of its own (far superior to the Rex Konsul, for instance), and with its five settings, it should deliver superb shaves for most people who shave regularly. If you shave once a week and have long stubble, maybe you will need a different razor with an open comb, perhaps. But if you shave daily or nearly daily, I daresay the Muramasa will take you into shaving heaven! A quick plug for Maggard Razors: Kudos to Brad for being a straight shooter. I’ve given him plenty of opportunities to upsell things to me that I don’t need, and every time, he has recommended products that made best sense for my use case. It is refreshing to deal with honest sellers who are not totally consumed by a profit motive. Brad has also taken the time to respond to all my questions. I highly recommend shopping here and getting to know Brad.

Mura Perfection

I've been using a Rockwell 6S for the past 7 years and I was starting to get tired of switching plates while shaving. I was researching between this and the Konsul and I'm glad I went with Muramasa. I've read that this is a bit milder than the Konsul and has less blade exposure, which I was looking for. I was also impressed with the engineering and since I'm buying a modern razor, I wanted something innovative rather than another razor with the same old Gillette design since I already have a D3 Fatboy currently being revamped. I received my Muramasa recently, and I can't say that it's very heavy, but it does have some weight to it, which I like, very balanced. The packaging as well is very nice, and it came with a key for dissembling. I noticed the threads are super smooth, too! My first shave with the Muramasa was perfect with setting # 3 WTG, #2 XTG, and #1 ATG. The razor is super efficient! For some reason, I didn't hear much feedback like I'm used to with the Rockwell, yet it's shaving everything EFFICIENTLY. The Muramasa is much more efficient than the Rockwell, and I love how I can adjust the settings on the fly. The Muramasa moves to my #1 list of razors that I own (Feather AS-D2 and Rockwell 6s). Thanks, Brad and team, for ALWAYS getting my order shipped out FAST>>>>>>>>>>>>.
