The best part of the Maggard Slant is the price -- $19.95 for the head alone. The head fits on all major manufacturer's handles, including all of the Maggard Razors stainless steel handles. If you want to purchase one of our handles with the slant head, it will be listed as a choice on our full razor product pages.

1) This isn't a razor for beginners.
We rarely recommend slants as a first razor to anyone; and the Maggard Slant is no exception. If we had to give an aggressiveness rating, our Slant would fall somewhere in the 5/10 range (compared to our Standard V3 at 3/10 and our V3A at 6/10). It is a comfortable and efficient razor -- but, you'll have to take your time with it, and it helps to build off of a base skill set you've already developed.

2) It's based on a vintage Mulcuto / Paul Müller slant that was produced in the 1930s.
Our Slant is based on the same vintage razor that the "iKon Stainless Steel Slant" was based on; but has several design modifications to enable mass production with the materials we chose. The shave has a different, unique feel from other slants on the market, and actually ended up different from the razor it was based on.

3) The head is made from cast Zinc Alloy.
Are there better materials? sure. But, we know that price is important for many of our customers - and at $19.95, it opens up the slant razor to a whole new market.

4) The head sometimes requires manual blade alignment.
Although testers all said it wasn't a huge problem, there is, without a doubt - a fair amount of play in the blade fitting. Now -- all slant razors typically have SOME play - but I would say that ours has more than the average slant. This is due to the fact that the original 1930's razor it is modeled from also had the same characteristics. The two alignment pegs needed to be about 5 thousands larger to resolve this issue - but the costs to modify and re-tool were just too high, so, we decided to release it anyway, because we feel like the benefits of this head far outweigh this minor inconvenience. 90% of the time, you can load a blade without thinking and it will be just fine. But, double checking before tightening down your handle isn't a terrible idea. Again, this is a trade off to meet our price target. Every single head we've test fitted (and it's been a lot, believe me), is able to be properly aligned with a small amount of effort. The easiest way is to drop on the blade to the top cap, align it with the top cap edges, hold it there on the ends of the cap, and then put the base plate on and tighten down the handle. If it still doesn't appear straight, loosen the handle a couple turns and use your fingers to make slight adjustments. If you don't like this trade off, we wouldn't recommend purchasing our slant razor.

Materials: Zinc Alloy with a matte gray plating. The finish is the same as our popular V3A head.

Slant is Great

Love slants or want to try one. Three finish choices, I love the gray. Super Close smooth shave.....

Customer review

This razor head offers a good introduction to the experience of DE slant razor shaving, but it falls significantly below the level of better slant razors. The fit and finish of the head are good for its price point. I did not have any issue with blade alignment as some have mentioned. The head leaves a fair amount of blade exposure, so one needs to pay careful attention to maintaining proper blade angle. I compared it to the Ikon B1 slant, which I also own. Not only does the Ikon have better fit and finish, but if provides a much smoother and more comfortable shave. It is less fussy about shave angle. Even though the Ikon has less blade exposure, it removes hair more efficiently than the Maggard and allows me to get a closer shave with fewer passes. I've tried a variety of blades with the Maggard slant, from Feather to Derby, and all felt a bit harsh against my face. Of course the Maggard cannot be fairly compared to tkon as the Ikon costs at least 4 to 5 times more. That said the Maggard is a good choice for someone who wants to experience a slant razor.

I tried the merkur slant and it was fine. I like this one better because I can use a long handle that I already had. This one is also slightly heavier which, for me, improves control. Excellent fit and finish. The bronze looks cool with a chrome handle. Some alignment issues but if you sort of hold the blade in place when you screw on the handle it’s not an issue. Highly recommended.

Customer review

God Bless Maggard Razors. This was my first Slant Razor and it goes perfectly with the Maggard MR1 Handle. Since the day this was released - I've been strictly using it and I've since prefer slants over everything else. I cant wait for a V2 if it all happens.

Customer review

This slant is superb. The blade tabs are covered and the coating gives it a nice glide under any soap circumstance. The one thing I would argue, is that while Maggard gives it a 5/10 for aggression, its rigidity is off the charts! If you aren't careful around even the most minor of skin blemishes or irregularities in the surface of your skin, this bad boy will slice right through it without warning. Think of it as a miniature guillotine! Once you learn to respect it around the curves and contours of your face, head, neck etc, it's a really incredible piece to have. I love it.
