Stirling soaps are one of the first soaps I tried in the hobby, and I couldn't figure out why everyone was raving about them. I thought they were over-rated and swore them off, but about a year later tried them again and found they were awesome. Turns out when I tried them as a newbie I still didn't know how to lather... my fault :).
The second time I tried them, I ended up being so impressed that they've become my go-to soap ever since. I've shaved exclusively with them for almost nine months now, and have used several different scents. What you will get is an excellent performer, with smooth, creamy lather that seems to work well in a variety of water conditions (I use the Marco method and have harder water).
As far as scent goes, I have tried probably 12 Sterling scents, including many sample sizes from Sterling. This one I didn't sample beforehand and bought an entire puck, figuring if it had so many scent fans that it had to be continued by Stirling even after Strop Shoppe went out of business, it must be pretty good.
At first, I was maybe a 3/5 on the scent, although my wife thought it was a 5/5. It's kind of hard to describe, and I'm not good with all the colorful "scent description language", so I won't even try to give you "base notes" or things of that nature. What I will say is that, although scents are subjective, I don't think this is the kind of scent that will cause some people to despise it or give it a 1/5, so I think you are fairly safe to order it. And also, it grows on you. While I initially had mixed feelings about it, by the time I finished the puck I ended up really liking it, and have just ordered my second container. With the variety of scents Sterling has, re-ordering one rather than trying something new does say something.
As with all things, your mileage may very, but I think this is a great performer with a pleasing scent and I give it 5 stars.
